As I'm typing my final blog post back in Hawaii, I still can't believe how quick five months went by. I really enjoyed every second of living there, adapting to the atmosphere and lifestyle, trying new food, meeting new people along the way while always adventuring out and about, and more. Studying abroad in Seoul this past semester was a privilege that I'm beyond grateful for and again, would like to thank Mr. Graeme Freeman, Mr. Alec Freeman, and The Freeman Foundation for making this all possible and allowing me to pursue my studies in South Korea while enjoying this once-in-a-lifetime experience before I graduate!
Studying at Korea University has taught me highly valued skills such as intercultural communication and has really broadened my perspective on the business industry outside of the USA. I was really intrigued by all the concepts my business classes taught me and it made me re-think about not only where I want to work, but also how I can contribute to the purpose of the profession I'm going to pursue. I also made many friends in my classes and it was amusing to hear about where everyone lives and what their life is like in their home country in comparison to Korea. Meeting new people almost everyday felt energizing and what kept me going each day.
While balancing both school and my freedom to explore, the one thing I will miss the most is always going out to walk around and using the public transportation to get me to places quickly and efficiently. I was shocked by how easy and far I could get with just a few subway stops and at first it was hard to adapt to while reading the subway routes and knowing where to go but in the end, it was something I enjoyed doing and was thankful they had a safe transportation system that allowed me to explore the ins and outs of Seoul easily. For example, I loved taking day trips outside of Seoul and the fact I could go somewhere far in two hours by public transportation system was something I enjoyed and wish I had more time to do so.
Overall, I feel like I've really made the most out of these past five months and don't regret anything! Learning the language was also a plus along with trying new food and really just immersing myself in the Korean culture. I didn't experience as much culture shock as I thought I would but throughout my journey, I've learned to persevere while tackling on daily obstacles I encountered and while self-reflecting upon myself, I realized my capabilities and goals that I can achieve and how it encouraged me to further grow personally and professionally.
Wrapping this up now, I'd like to thank all my family and friends for following me along this journey and supporting me every step of the way even while I was living in a different country!
This is the end for my study abroad experience and until next time Korea! Thank you. :)
감사합니다 !!!
