Week 9: April 16-23
After having a fun-filled week last week, I hate to say that this past week has probably been my most unexpected week of unfortunate events. It started off last week Friday when I woke up feeling more tired than usual. I just thought I was still a little jet lag from Busan. I also had a minor sore throat but I thought nothing that Dayquil couldn't fix. (So I thought..) I decided to just go out to grab more medicine and an at-home Covid kit just to make sure. As I got home, I decided to test myself and 15 minutes later saw I tested positive. Honestly, at this point, I wasn't mad I had caught Covid because the cases in Seoul have been crazy high lately and with riding the crowded public transportation frequently, it seemed impossible to avoid catching it at some point during my trip here. But, on top of that, it was the start of my midterms week. I already felt pretty awful and fatigued and so it was really hard to pull myself out of bed to study while I was stuck in quarantine for one week. Luckily this week, all my midterms were online so it wasn't a problem as I could do it from my Goshiwon. Also, the exam week in Korea is pretty intense as I noticed I had three group projects and three midterms. I felt overwhelmed with my sickness already and now just an overload of work due all in the same week. I was shocked when our professors told us we had a project due AND a midterm because back at UH Manoa, it was either for my classes. However, the group projects weren't as bad as I thought and neither were the midterms I had so far. Overall this week definitely took a toll on me mentally and physically but I'm glad it's over now!
Week 10: April 24-30
After the most stressful week yet, I am still somewhat recovering from last week. But, with midterms done, I had a little more time to go out and enjoy the fresh air as I was stuck in my room the entire last week. This week, I decided to go to more cafes with my friends (are we surprised at this point), eat really good and incredibly affordable sushi in Hongdae, and even spent the day at Lotte World! Dressing up in school uniforms is a popular thing to do when going to amusement parks in Korea. So my friends and I went to rent uniforms for the day to get the full experience! There was a rental place near the park and it was about 20,000 won. You could choose your own top, bottom, and accessories. My friends and I decided to match with plaid skirts, a white-collar top, and a tie. It was chaotic in there as everyone is grabbing different designs and sizes and since the sizing in Asia is in cm rather than inches, we had a hard time finding the right size. Our reservation was at 12 so even more so, a lot of the sizes were out of stock so we spent almost an hour in there choosing an outfit, trying on, and getting dressed. We finally got dressed though and headed to the park. Lotte World has two main parts which include an indoor and outdoor amusement park. It's starting to get a lot hotter now and so I was glad we chose the right outfits for the day as it was scorching hot waiting in lines. Not to mention, the lines for all the rides were over a 100+ minute wait time. I only rode about three rides I think because we got there kind of late in the afternoon and the rides close at 8 PM. I thought it was still fun though regardless of how long we waited. (I would recommend going on a weekday though so it's a little less crowded.) But, overall it was really fun going with a group of friends!
Lotte World!
